when i go to doc chey's i always get two fortune cookies: one for before my meal, one for after. i used to not like them, but the combination of my fascination with "the occult" and my conditioning not to waste food (thanks, mom!) eventually resulted in my defenses being worn down. now i love them.
i recently had dinner there and got the following three fortunes (one cookie contained two):
First cookie:
"Your efforts in a critical area will soon be rewarded."
"You shall attain great wisdom with each passing year" (emphasis added).
Second cookie:
"Now is the time to try something new."
i take these as good news. i hope i am gaining wisdom, since i am writing a dissertation, and the fact that my efforts may be rewarded gives me hope for finishing. and i'd love to try something new while continuing to work towards being rewarded. yes, overall i feel these fortunes are much better than my friend Michelle's fortune from a cookie she ate many years ago at the same restaurant, which said:
"In fifty years, people will live on the moon."
