AFI Top 100: Toy Story (#99 in 2007; unranked in 1998)

So, Toy Story: I ran out of steam writing that Ben-Hur summary so I'll keep this one brief.

This movie came out in November of 1995 which was 22 years ago which is also the year I graduated high school. I'm mostly still in shock about both of those things, honestly. I could have had a child since it came out and that child could be out getting drunk this very minute - legally #wth

The movie was good and I remember that I really liked it the first time I saw it which I now realize was before I could drink legally but after I could vote legally.

It was before all movies were 3D animation which is hard to remember. At first, I was fascinated and a little confused about why this film made the list but then I remembered when I watched it:
  1. it was a really good story - the toy characters were complex and nuanced and very adult and the child characters were going through very stressful situations like living next to a bully and moving and having a new little sibling - it is truly a film that speaks to people of many different ages
  2. it was revolutionary animation and has influenced the direction of animated films in a major way - i forgot it was the first!
So I watched this pioneering animated film in blu-ray on my 4K TV using our PS4 and I was really struck by how quickly animation and visual technology is changing and how much good storytelling is staying the same.

Thank you Toy Story. You done good.
